Definition

Number of pesticide intoxications that occurred at the workplace, based in compulsory notifications, per 10,000 agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and forestry sector workers. This indicator is a proxy of threatens to labor health.

Interpretation

Higher values for this indicator point to higher threaten to labor health in food production sectors and, consequently, to a lower sustainability of the food system social aspect.

Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE Automated Data Retrieval System - data from the Annual Continuous National Household Sample Survey (SIDRA - table 7130): https://sidra.ibge.gov.br/tabela/7130 (accessed on 01/28/2026): Estimates of number of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and forestry sector workers in Brazil across the years 2012-2019 and 2022-2024; SINAN Web (Notifiable Diseases Information System) - Comprises the number of cases of accidental poisoning by pesticide exposure; pesticide assault; and pesticide poisoning of undetermined intent. All of these events are subject to mandatory reporting in Brazil.
