Percentage of the rural population with an account at a financial institution.
Level State10 years
Definition
Proportion of adults aged 15 or over who live in rural areas and who have an account (individual or joint with another person) at a bank or other financial institution, or who personally use a mobile money service.
Interpretation
Access to a bank account can improve farmers' ability to acquire important inputs, including credit, seeds or fertilizers, or productive assets. This indicator measures access to credit in the rural sector; however, it does not measure access to credit specifically among farmers or farmers' associations.
