Percentage of informal workforce in food production
Definition
Informal work occurs when a worker is not recognized as such by their employer or is providing services without registration with the federal government. Informal work is a social problem because it is characterized by precarious working conditions. This indicator measures the percentage of workers in informal conditions in agriculture, livestock, fishing, and forestry.
Interpretation
Higher values for this indicator point to a greater chance of disrespect for labor rights in food production and, consequently, to less sustainability of the social aspect of the food system.
