Functional integrity: proportion of agricultural establishments with at least 10% of their territory occupied by preserved native vegetation (%)
Definition
It measures the proportion of semi-natural or natural habitat per km² of agricultural land or pasture. The limit is set at 10%, based on evidence that agroecosystem services are lost when this value is less than 10%. At the national level, this indicator is expressed as the proportion of the country's agricultural land that is above or below the integrity limit.
Interpretation
The higher the proportion of establishments that respect the minimum preservation limit of 10% of native vegetation, the greater the chance of maintaining ecosystem balances. Note: The Brazilian Forest Code requires a higher proportion of native vegetation preservation in each national biome. Therefore, this indicator may need modifications to the cutoff point by 10%.
