Percentage of fisheries with management measures to control fishing effort or catch limits established through official normative acts. To count fisheries, each fishing modality (gear type and target species) is considered along with its respective geographic area.
Interpretation
Management measures formalized through normative acts increase the obligation for fisheries to adopt mitigation strategies for incidental catches or activities that violate protected areas and critical breeding periods, thereby reducing the ecosystem impacts of fishing. This indicator verifies the existence of such normative actions but does not aim to monitor their effectiveness.
