Proportion of native vegetation in agricultural establishments
Definition
Proportion of native vegetation present within the boundaries of agricultural land (crops and pastures), calculated as a percentage of the total cultivated area.
Interpretation
This indicator measures the proportion of the total farm area that is maintained or restored as natural vegetation. Maintaining natural vegetation contributes to biodiversity conservation, improves soil and water health, and strengthens the overall resilience of the farm. In Brazil, the Forest Code establishes a minimum percentage of preservation depending on the biome where the agricultural establishment is located. The interpretation of this indicator must be done considering the biome.
